GLOUCESTER, UK – 16 December, 2021 – Dowty Propellers, a leader in electronically controlled, all-composite propeller systems, has opened a propeller maintenance and repair facility at Robins Air Force Base in Georgia, USA for the Lockheed Martin C-130J Super Hercules.
Dowty’s R391 propeller has powered the C-130J aircraft in conjunction with the Rolls-Royce AE 2100 turbopop since 1994 and the opening of this customer-located facility will further strengthen the business’ legacy with the iconic military airlifter.
It also heralds an exciting chapter in Dowty’s partnership with the US Air Force. US military personnel will work in partnership with Dowty employees to provide depot-level maintenance and repair for the C-130J’s six bladed propeller system, which has an unmatched 25-year record of operational reliability. A real vote of confidence from the customer on the value Dowty can bring to site through its quality operational support.
Henry Johnston, president at Dowty Propellers, says: “We take great pride in being available to support the US Air Force, providing the benefits of our extensive experience and working to sustain aircraft availability. The C-130J has already achieved two million flight hours during its lifetime, but still has much work to do. We are looking forward to working together with Robins Air Force Base personnel to continue supporting successful missions for the C-130J across the globe for years to come.”
“This new partnership is an excellent example of combining the best of commercial processes and practices with extensive Air Force capabilities,” said Brig. Gen. Jennifer Hammerstedt, Warner Robins Air Logistics Complex commander. “The innovative propeller system has helped modernize the C-130J airframe, which enhances our mission readiness.”
The ribbon cutting ceremony on 16th December 2021 was attended by Brig. Gen. Jennifer Hammersrtedt, and Scott Edge, Maintenance Support Group, civilian leader, alongside members of the Dowty Propellers team.
