R345 propeller system for the Textron Systems LCAC hovercraft
The R345 propeller system operates as a shrouded airscrew on Textron Systems’ LCAC (Landing Craft, Air Cushion) hovercraft.
Its composite propeller blades are subjected to some of the most extreme operational environments, powering this high-speed, over-the-beach, fully amphibious landing craft. LCAC hovercraft can traverse snow, marsh, ice, tundra and sand, and are capable of traversing obstacles as high as four feet on land.
The LCAC’s two rear-mounted Dowty Propellers R345 propeller systems are powered by Vericor Power Systems’ 5,035-shp. ETF40B marine gas turbines.
Following decades of fleet service, the LCAC will operate well into the 21st century with a Service Life Extension Program (SLEP).
